Wedding GownCleaning &Preservation
A dress this important deserves cleaning and preservation done by hand, on-site.
Some garments only get worn once and have to last forever. A wedding gown is the most personal piece of clothing most people will ever own, and the way it is cleaned and stored after the wedding determines whether it survives twenty, thirty, or fifty years from now.
We do every step of wedding gown cleaning and preservation on-site. The dress never leaves our shop, and we have preserved gowns for brides across the area for years.
How wedding gowns is done here.
Every wedding gowns order at New England Dry Cleaners follows the same 5-stage process: survey, pre-treat, clean, finish, and final inspection. Almost all stages happen on-site at 20 Elm Street, North Attleboro. Same-day available Monday through Friday when dropped off by 10:00 AM.
- 01
Consultation & survey
Bring your gown in (and your accessories if you want them preserved too: veil, sash, gloves). We document every stain, missing bead, and weak seam, and walk you through what we will and won't be able to fully reverse.
- 02
Hand spot-treatment
Champagne, lipstick, dirt at the hem, grass on the train: every visible stain is treated by hand before the gown enters cleaning.
- 03
Specialty cleaning
We clean using a method calibrated to your gown's fabric and embellishment. Beaded, lace, silk, satin, and synthetic gowns each call for a different approach.
- 04
Inspection & finishing
After cleaning, the gown is inspected against the original survey. Any remaining issues are addressed before preservation.
- 05
Acid-free preservation
The gown is wrapped in acid-free tissue, supported to keep its shape, and sealed in an acid-free preservation box that protects against yellowing, mildew, and fabric breakdown for decades.
Why "acid-free" matters
Most cardboard and tissue paper contains residual acids that, over years, slowly turn fabric yellow and brittle. Acid-free materials are pH-neutral; they don't introduce that decay.
Combined with proper folding and support inside the box, acid-free preservation is the single most important factor in whether your gown still looks fresh on your daughter's shoulders thirty years from now.
How soon should I bring it in?
Sooner is better. Stains set with time and heat; the longer champagne, makeup, or sweat sits in fabric, the harder it is to remove fully. Ideally we see the gown within a few weeks of the wedding. But we have successfully cleaned gowns brought in years later, too.
What about the veil, sash, and accessories?
Bring them. We can preserve a veil, sash, gloves, garter, or other accessories in the same box. Just tell us at drop-off so we plan accordingly.
